About this Item: Carnegie Institution of Washington, 1943. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. vii+156+[134]+[13 fold out maps] with frontispiece, figures, maps, plates, illustrations and photographs. Quarto (11 1/2" x 9") bound in original wrappers. First edition. This publication presents the results of four expeditions sent into southern Campeche and northern Guatemala by the Division of Historical Research of Carnegie Institution of Washington. Ruppert and Denison's monumental work resulting from the four expeditions in 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1938, was practically the only source of information on some archaeological site in the area, except for El Palmar (Thompson 1936), were all found by Ruppert and his Carnegie Institution surveys of the 1930s. Although some of the most impressive Maya sites lie here, notably Calakmul, no serious work has been done in the zone. Condition: Spine stained, corners bumped, underlining through the Summary and page one, previous owner's name on front end paper, else a good to very good copy. Seller Inventory # A0761
