Three-Quarter Leather. Condition: Good Plus. No Jacket. Engravings (illustrator). Reprint. Original three-quarter dark brown leather over patterned brown cloth over boards with gilt lettering. Five raised bands. Previous owner's name and date of 1860 (multiple times). Heavy wear to most edges with cloth torn and frayed. Front hinge is broken at Table of Contents (pages being held by mere threads). Back hinge strong. Some minor foxing and staining of pages. The publisher of this book was renowned for engravings of maps - the engravings included here are superb (most have tissue protectors)! This book was originally published in 1563, and chronicles Protestant suffering at the hands of the Catholics, especially in England and Scotland. Very heavy book - expect a request for extra postage. Scarce in original binding. Size: 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Book.

Title Page illustrated with Cranmer & Edward VI. Text arranged in Double Columns within Linear Border. Contemporary Brown Full-Leather Binding with 4 gilt decorated raised bands to spine. Gilt Title in 2nd compartment. Endpapers Marbled. All page edges marbled. Preface followed by Introductiory Essay and the Life of John Foxe. xlviii pages. Main text 942 Pages. 11 1/2" Tall, 2.8 Kilos. Some edge wear. Some smallish pieces of leather missing from spine and a bit from top left corner of front cover. (see photo). Tips of corners worn. Hinges sound, text block firm. No inscriptions. Pages in nice, clean condition.
