Urban-Bücher, 36. - REAR COVER: Spätestens seit der Jahrhundertwende wurde deutlich, daß sich das Drama von seiner klassischen Struktur löste und neuen Gesetzmäßigkeiten zustrebte. Während der exemplarisch moderne Roman (Joyce: Ulysses) sich auf die von Aristoteles für das Drama geforderten Einheiten des Ortes und der Zeit zurückzog, übernahm das Drama, das eben diese Einheiten durchbrach, Momente des Epischen. Der von Piscator erfundene, von Brecht theoretisch unterbaute Terminus vom "epischen Theater" trägt dem Rechnung. Die dramatische Handlung wird der übergeordneten Reflexion eines "epischen Ichs" unterstellt, dessen "innere Betrachtung" sich als Traum, Erinnerung, Kommentar und Parabel formal äußern kann. Ausgehend vom Schiller-Goetheschen Briefwechsel, der den ästhetischen Umbruch vorreflektiert, untersucht die vorliegende Arbeit die verschiedenen Ausformungen der neuen Dramaturgie an Hand ausgewählter Autoren, die für deren Möglichkeiten stehen.
