The first editions.Four volumes in the popular 'Notable English Trials' series.'Notable English Trials', alongside 'Notable Scottish Trials' and 'Notable British Trials', was an incredibly popular series that examined historic criminal trials.Including;'Trial of Simon, Lord Lovat of the '45', edited by David N. Mackay. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and six plates. Two pages of adverts to the rear. Collated, complete. Lord Lovat was a Jacobite who is known for his feuding and changes of allegiance. He was among the Highlanders who were defeated at the Battle of Culloden, and was subsequently convicted of treason and beheaded.'Trial of William Palmer', edited by George H. Knott. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and seven plates. Collated, complete. William Palmer was a doctor who was the centre of one of the most notorious cases of the 19th century. He was convicted for the 1855 poisoning of his friend, John Cook, and was executed by hanging. Palmer was suspected of poisoning several other people, including his brother, mother-in-law, four of his children, and possibly his wife.'Trial of George Henry Lamson', edited by Hargrave L. Adam. Illustrated with a frontispiece, and four plates. Collated, complete. Lamson was an American doctor and murderer, who was convicted with the murder of his young brother-in-law. The President at the time delayed Lamson's execution due to his well connected family - Lamson's great-grandfather was Philip Jeremiah Schuyler, the brother of Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, and brother-in-law of Alexander Hamilton.'Eugene Aram His Life and Trial', edited by Eric R. Eugene Aram was a philologist, tried with the murder of a shoemaker named Daniel Clark, whose skeleton was discovered twenty-four years after the murder. Aram was immortalised in Thomas Hood's ballad 'The Dream of Eugene Aram', and in Edward Bulwer-Lytton's novel 'Eugene Aram'. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Spines are a little faded. Some light marks to the boards and spines. Light spots to the fore edges. A little discolouration to the extremities of 'Lord Lovat' and to the boards of 'Lamson'. Front hinge of 'Lord Lovat' is starting but firm. Rear hinge of 'William Palmer' and 'George Henry Lamson' are starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto to the front endpaper of 'William Palmer'. Internally, firmly bound, 'Eugene Aram' is generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with some scattered spots. Very Good. book.
