Two handmade paper samples, with printed descriptive text and address, and listing of papermaking plant materials used in some of the papers, and a price list of types & sizes of paper then available [1977], on an 8 1/2 in. x 11 in. sheet of folded, light green Carriage House Paper Works stationary, with a printed Carriage House business card, inserted in this folded list; and an autograph letter, signed by papermaker Elaine Koretsky, written on a 5 in. x 7 1/4 in. sheet of handmade paper, and sent with the other materials, to a Cleveland, Ohio book and handmade paper collector, in 1977: "[-]Enclosed is a price list, plus a listing of our papers, (fiber content) that we've been making in the past year-but some of these may not be currently available because of the season of the year [Spring]-we grow a lot of the plants we use. [signed]: Elaine Koretsky." Condition: Near Fine. Included unbound within portfolio cover (a folded sheet of handmade paper) are 34 unfolded samples of handmade paper, numbered 1-34 (#11 is much smaller than the others and has been inserted in a flapless envelope). Size of samples varies. An oddly-folded and tied essay by Koretsky is also laid in with brief introductory notes followed by short descriptions of each sample and a Postscript. Apparently limited to 100 copies; "60/100" written in pencil on narrow front flap. 24 cm.

Elaine Koretsky (1932-2018) was a papermaking pioneer, championing unexpected techniques in order to manipulate the substance of paper. In 1975, she established Carriage House Handmade Paper Works in Brookline, Massachusetts, and there conducted instructional workshops and created papers for artists, printers, and herself. Here her talents evoke wool fleece to outline a textural landscape. Fine. Framed. (Frame measures 20 by 20 in.; 508x508 mm).
