Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, the author of one of the most poignant and enduringly popular novels of the twentieth century, left only a few other pieces of fiction when he died prematurely at the age of sixty. 'Childhood Memories and Other Stories', here presented in a new translation by Stephen Parkin and including the previously unpublished fragment 'The Turret', collects all of Lampedusa's extant shorter fiction and provides a revealing glimpse into the writer's workshop and the background to the composition of his masterpiece.'The Leopard' his masterpiece, was published after the death of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, last Prince di Lampedusa (1896-1957), in 1958 by Feltrinelli, after two rejections by two leading Italian publishing houses, it became the top selling novel in Italian history and is considered one of the most important novels in modern Italian literature. The novel was also made into an award winning 1963 film of the same name, directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon. Quite a scarce book.
