Book
Hardcover. Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Cloth backed boards. Illustrations. 400 copies printed by Susan Acker. In the Foreword the author describes how he and Lewis Osborne discussed compiling some of the author's writings (short fiction, factual articles, travel sketches, boys' stories, book reviews, etc.) in book form. Because of other priorities, the project was put off, and Lewis Osborne died. The project sat around for three decades until in recent years the author once more picked it up, this time discussing it with Linda and Wayne Bonnett. Titles of some of Oscar Lewis' writings are: The Tree; Free Auto Camp Ground; When the Iron Horse First Ran West; The Medal He Lost; John Henry Nash; The Jumping Frog Contest; Jack London's California; Stanford -- "It is Pleasant to b e Rich"; etc.

Printed in two colors on archival deckle-edged paper. Cloth-backed boards printed in silver and blue. A very fine copy. Oscar Lewis (1893-1992) ranks as one of California's outstanding narrative historians and writers. This work provides an anthology of Lewis' best writing over a period of fifty years, selected by himself and with his own observations. The illustrations consist of thirty-five vintage line illustrations from contemporary books and periodicals in the Golden Age of magazines. NOTE ON OSCAR LEWIS: There were two contemporary authors who are VERY frequently confused. The more widely known one (1914/12/25-1970/12/16) was a anthropologist who created the modern understanding on the culture of poor people. The other one (1893- 1992/07/11) is associated with the Book Club of California and California history.
