Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957) was an English painter, illustrator, typographer, and author. He is best known as a founding member of the Vorticist Movement, a re-revisioning of European Futurism that privileged the art and literature of an Anglo-Saxon ancestry. He edited and designed the famous Vorticist periodical BLAST (1914-1915), published by the Bodley Head and surviving for only two issues. An important figure of British Modernism, Lewis' painting demonstrates the influence of Cubism, Futurism, Giorgio de Chirico's scuola metafisica movement, and Surrealism.
