[.] The camera used was a Fairchild F-8, 5- by 7-inch, carrying rollfilm. When low altitude made short exposure necessary, the Leica camera was used with a 135-mm lens, and one-thousandth seond shutter setting." (etc.; p. 204 f.). -- Rachael Mary Upjohn Light Meader (Kalamazoo, Michigan 1916-2008 ibid.), American Eexplorer, navigator, aerial photographer. In 1938, "the Lights flew some 35,000 miles across the [African] continent with the goal of photographing little-known locales in East Africa. To prepare, Mary studied Morse code. She also learned how to shoot photos with an aerial camera and how to navigate and fly their Bellanca CH-400 Skyrocket monoplane, which was both unheated and unpressurized. Flying several hours each day, the couple had to breathe oxygen through tubes - with diminutive Mary hanging over the side of the plane strapped into a special frame they had installed. This adventurous position enabled her to take inaugural pictures of the land, mountains, and jungles below. Her more than 2,000 photographs captured swaths across all regions, including the Ruwenzori Mountains in Uganda, which had never before been photographed. Their flight was historic in aviation circles as well as among geographic explorers and photographers." (etc.; K. Demas, in: depressioncenter org, Eisenberg Family Depression Center Univ. of Michigan, Sep 22, 2020) - "During the planning of the trip, many points on Earth had not been captured on film from the air and the American Geographical Society promoted these photographic flights, as they were trying to build an aerial collection. Light's idea was to travel across areas of South America and Africa that had never been aerially photographed. [.] While there [in Cape Town, South Africa], she took a picture of the ice dome and crater of Mount Kilimanjaro and of the glaciars and pinnacles on Mount Kenya. Her photographs include different views of native villages, urban areas, and the Egyptian pyramids, among other subjects." (Wikipedia). -- WEIGHT CATEGORY 2 kg - Sprache: de.
