Trade Paperback. Condition: New. First Edition. New! This copy is one of a few signed by Matt Ruff, author of LOVECRAFT COUNTY with a small ink drawing. Introduction by Matt Ruff, illustrated by Dean Kelly. 'Call of the Dreamlands' is the first volume in a new H.P. Lovecraft series by Chatwin Books, featuring an introduction by Matt Ruff, fresh off the success of the HBO adaptation of his novel Lovecraft Country. Both signed limited hardcover (limited to 100 copies signed by Matt Ruff & illustrator Dean Kelly), and paperback editions are available. H. P. Lovecraft was an eccentric racist whose writings, though unheralded in his lifetime, influenced what would become the modern Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror genres. His stories, filled with a near tangible sense of lurking dread and an overpowering fear of the unknown, resonate with readers throughout the social fabric to this day. Chatwin Books presents our first collection of spine-chilling stories by H. P. Lovecraft, edited and illustrated by Dean Kelly and designed by Vladimir Verano, with an introduction by Matt Ruff, author of Sewer, Gas, Electric; Set This House in Order; Bad Monkeys; 88 Names; and Lovecraft Country, the basis for the acclaimed HBO TV show. From the introduction by Matt Ruff: 'So the first thing you should know is, he can be an acquired taste. In the Dreamlands stories that make up the first volume of this series, you'll find palaces of living fire, a golden bridge of moonbeams, a ship that sails off the edge of the world, and a grudge match between immortals that ends with a supernova lighting up the sky. His marvels are seen mostly in glimpses, and the price of even a short look can be high: death, insanity, disensoulment, oblivion. He has a way of getting in your head, and even if you don't develop a taste for him, you'll likely find some inspiration - horrible or wonderful - to carry away with you.' Illustrated by Dean Kelly.

Soft Cover. Condition: Near Fine (see description). Text Cover (illustrator). First Edition. ------------( 1st printing of the First NP Edition ) ---softcover, about 8.5 x 11 inches, a Near Fine copy, # 273 of 2500 (!!) copies signed by Michaud, an oddity (as per Joshi ) as this mentions the 1976 edition of 50 copies and states that 2500 copies of this "printing" were published ( in the 1970's Necro Press wasn't producing anything in those numbers), however as Joshi states this uses the 1976 title page but has a revised copyright page and a slightly different red for the covers, the likelihood is that this 2nd is the earlier edition with those few changes, that earlier edition was supposedly 400 copies although this issue states that there were 50 copies so it is likely that there were never more than 400 copies in total and a goodly number of those may have never been bound, nonetheless a scarce item, any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo /// SIGNED ---GUARANTEED to be AVAILABLE/// ---sizes are approximate (generally within 1/8 inch)--- Size: 8.5w x 11h Inches. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First Edition/First Printing. A square solid tight clean unread unused copy. Signed by Joshi. From the Introduction by editor S. T. Joshi As the work of H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) has now reached a worldwide audience and has been adapted into all manner of media, from films to television to comic books to role-playing games to video games and more, it is difficult to remember that he did not have a single book of his stories published in his lifetime, and that he considered himself a failure in both a commercial and an aesthetic sense. But such a fate often falls upon those artists who revolutionize their fields, and Lovecraft certainly did that. Most of the stories he wrote during his final decade are too long to reprint here, but "The Call of Cthulhu" retains vitality as his initial foray into this complex and ever-developing pseudo-mythology. With this story and its successors, Lovecraft established the genre of weird fiction as a means of conveying both terror and philosophical depth. For all that he was a "failure" (judged purely by commercial considerations) in his lifetime, he ultimately achieved a success unprecedented in the annals of literature. His work is now disseminated across the globe, and he himself has become a cultural icon. In this sense, his posthumous career is a "weird tale" far stranger than anything he ever wrote. THIS COPY IS IN MY POSSESSION AND NORMALLY SHIPS NEXT DAY. Signed Copy. Book.
