Johnson after the Pach Bros. photograph, with facsimile signature, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, Volume XLIII, No. 1, November, 1891. The first part is biographical by Woodberry; the second part reprints a letter to Benton from Lowell concerning his poems of 1875, The World's Fair, and Tempora Mutantur. As per the editor, "This article was written for The Century before the death of Mr. Lowell as a review of the recently published revised edition of his complete works.'
