Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Jacket by Broome Lynne, photos by Henri Cartier-Bresson (illustrator). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Ex library but only one stamp affeting copyright page and some scraped areas and old tape marks to ffep and pastedowns. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, folding crease affecting whole bottom half inch of jacket, some faint dints and scrapes to front jacket, but overall jacket very fresh and bright. Not price clipped (18s), no personal inscriptions, two contemporary reviews tipped in, some yellowing to page block, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age and ex library, in bright unfaded jacket. 145pp. Kenneth Peacock Tynan (1927-80), was an English theatre critic and writer. Initially making his mark as a critic at 'The Observer', he praised John Osborne's 'Look Back in Anger' (1956) and encouraged the emerging wave of British theatrical talent. In 1963 Tynan was appointed the new National Theatre Company's literary manager. An opponent of theatre censorship, he was one of the earliest people to say 'fuck' on British television, during a live 1965 broadcast, despite a common misconception that he was the first. He was married to American author Elaine Dundy, but the marriage was put under strain by extra marital affairs and Tynan's predilections for sado-masochism, pornography, champagne socialism and alcohol. They divorced in 1964. Later in life he settled in California, where he resumed his writing career, dying of emphysema aged 53. This book reflects his twin obsessions with the theatre and bull-fighting. Quite a scarce book.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Jacket by Broome Lynne (illustrator). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear and rubbing to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners slightly rubbed and bruised, some slight yellowing to back jacket, not price clipped (16s), previous owner's stamp to top ffep, internally clean tight and almost square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 208pp. An autobiography of the extraordinary exploits of Vincent Charles Hitchcock (1927-76), the first British bullfighter in Spain. Vincent Hitchcock was for many years the only professional matador from England. He entertained crowds in the Spanish arena from 1949 up to the 1960s and killed more than 100 bulls during his career. He was tossed many times, repeatedly gored and almost lost his life on several occasions. His parents deplored his choice of profession and thankfully the world has moved on with regards to animal welfare. Vincent Hitchcock died in 1976 from cancer at the age of just 48. Quite a scarce book.
