MacKenzie was Library Bibliographer at the Los Angeles Public Library. These very enjoyable essays, on librarianship, books, reading and life in general were oriiginally published in the Los Angeles Public Library's "The Broadcaster" and the "California Librarian" the quarterly of the California Library Association.
