Beautifully llustrated by English-born American illustrator, landscape painter, etcher, and wood engraver, Harry Fenn and American landscape artist and illustrator, John Douglas Woodward. The two artists travelled together through Egypt and the Holy Land in the winters of 1877 and 1878 illustrating scenes and architecture.

Hardcover. Condition: vg. Later edition. Folio. 994, 358, 61pp. Original gold and blind-tooled full leather with gold lettering on spines and covers. All edges gilt. Dentelles. Colored endpapers. 3 engraved frontispieces. Engraved vignette on each of the 3 title-pages of the Bible. Rare and fascinating illustrated Bible divided in 3 parts: Volume 1: Genesis to Solomon; Volume 2: Isaiah to Malachi; Volume 3; The New Testament. At rear of the last volume is bound a Bible Dictionary issued by the same publisher to complete this work. This New Illustrated Bible contains no less than 600 in-text and full-page engravings on steel and wood. Each plate is protected with a tissue-guard, and, as a whole, were intended by the publisher to "form a complete gallery of Scriptural illustration". Most of the illustrations are the work of Harry Fenn and J. D. Woodward who were engaged by the publisher to take sketches on the spot. Edges of bindings slightly rubbed. Sporadic and minor foxing on very first and very last pages (not affecting frontispieces). Stunning bindings in overall very good, interior in near to fine condition.
