(USA) Edition Not Stated There is an owner' inscription in pencil to the endpaper dated 1892, no other markings, pages clean, there is a bit of raying to the head and foot of the spine, covers generally clean and bright but there is a dime-size faint spot to the back cover, hinges solid, Good; no Dj perhaps as issued. About 19 x 14 cm, bright blue cloth with black embossed designs, gold spine titles, bevelled edges, grey endpapers, viii, 264pp. Tissued-protected frontis showing a farewwll scene as a ship leaves a town, a few B&W full-page illus; small B&W illus. The heroic struggles of three successive eras are depicted to portray the persecutions of Protestants. The original title in French is "Scènes d'Histoire et de Famille, XVIe, XVIIe, et XVIIIe Siècles" by Madame de Witt, daughter of the illustrious Guizot.
