The essays are on obscure and not-so-obscure literary subjects, but one of them ventures into science, and another into historians. "The Eighteen-'Sixties - Essays by Fellows of the Royal Society of Literature", was edited by John Drinkwater, the Poet Laureate of England, and himself a Fellow member, who also contributed an essay and the book's Introduction. The book was published in 1932 by Cambridge University Press. This is the First Edition, hardcover format. The book has a very interesting provenance and gift inscription (See Below). Association Copy, being contributor Wilfrid Gibson's copy, with his ownership signature at front end page, and glued in at front paste down an envelope containing 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" notecard from De La Mare to Gibson in ink, in his tiny and tidy hand both sides, roughly 250 words, commenting on Gibson's "Remembrances". Wilfrid Gibson is recognized as a leader of the Georgian poetry movement. The book is Near Fine, small corner bump, in Very Good dust jacket, front flap price-clipped, old internal and external tape mends. Other contributors include Graham Greene, T.S. Eliot, Lord Dunsany, John Masefield, Siegfried Sasson, Vita Sackville-West, and Christopher Morley, amongst many other noted literary stars. A significant Association Copy.
