Condition: UNSPECIFIED. Hard cover dust wrapper 224pp b&w photos. Ownership label on fly else very good. Classic tale of American frontier origins to wealth and worldwide fame as inventors. Both equally ambitious, egotistical and pugnacious, the brothers became bitter enemies. Hiram's invention of the Maxim gun changed the face of warfare, expressed most horribly in the slaughter of WWI, but his work took in gas and electric lighting, and significant early experiments in heavier-than-air flight.
