Published by Aminoil Getty Joint Operation, Petroleum Engineering Department, Wafra, Neutral Zone, 1965
Seller: Dendera, London, United Kingdom
Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Black cloth gilt-titled to the spine and front with Kuwaiti and Saudi emblems 23x29cm. (1), v, 117, 36pp including several b/w maps, diagrams and a folding data sheet. Covers very good with some rubbing, interiors fine with the label of bookbinder Henry Nuss, Dallas, Texas, at the back. An extremely rare in-house planning document. In line with the agreement to divide the resources of the Neutral Zone equally between them, it relates to a major joint operation undertaken by the American Independent Oil Company (Aminoil) for Kuwait, and Getty Oil for Saudi Arabia. They had discovered oil in the Wafra Field in 1954, and drilling around its fringes revealed it to be one of the largest in the world. Of its reservoirs, the Ratawi Oolitic Reservoir described here, was the largest based on its production rate and remaining recoverable reserves. It had accounted for a growing share of the Field's overall production up to 1963, with this trend forecast to continue. Given its importance, the study was undertaken to determine how best to develop and operate it in the future. The author, L.W. Myers, was the Aminoil-Getty Joint Operation's Chief Petroleum Engineer. He presents the findings made by his Petroleum Engineering Department using a model developed by D.R. McCord and Associates in Dallas, Texas, covering geology and performance predictions, and the financial calculations derived from a programme designed by Claude Jenkins of Aminoil. In the Foreword, McCord describes his own input, and expresses confidence in the way the work was done.
