Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Early reprint - originally published, 1844. SCARCE IN 19TH CENTURY EDITIONS. This work is a remarkable treasure trove of information, densely packed with facts, figures and is enormously readable. A remarkable achievement! The set is comprised of two large, thick octavo volumes. Issued with seven folding maps, this copy contains only the following six: VOLUME I: -The World on Mercator's Projection. -Asia -The Navigable Rivers; the Completed & Proposed Canals & Railroads of Great Britain & Ireland, with the Coal Fields, Light Houses, etc. -British Possessions in North America. VOLUME II: -Central & Southern Europe with the Mediterranean Sea. -Map of the United States, including Texas. Condition: both volumes are bound in full leather bindings, but both have sustained some damp damage. The front hinge on Vol. I is split & the front cover is nearly detached as is the 1st endpaper, blank leaf, frontispiece map & title page; the bottom of the spine is curled. The internal dampstaining is evident in both volumes in the tidemarks on the lower portions of the pages. Both books also contain scattered foxing. Several of the maps are detached or nearly so; the map of the U. S. & Texas is heavily creased. The rear hinge of Vol. II is split halfway up from the bottom & about a quarter of the way up at the front hinge & the spine is a bit curled outward. This copy is a good candidate for rebinding.
