This superb historical novel (it is NOT a biography as some have stated) is the second volume of the author's Christ and Antichrist Trilogy (1895 - 1907), the first volume of which is Julian the Apostate: The Death of the Gods, and the final volume of which is Peter and Alexis. Published originally in Russian in 1900, the novel is written from the point of view of a student in da Vinci's workshop who tries to deal with what he sees as contradictions between pagan and Christian themes and values. The author's name is sometimes given as Dmitry Merezhkovsky. NOTE: This is a heavy book, weighing 900 grams / 2 lb., and will require extra postage for international shipment.
