Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good +. First edition. Near Fine in Very Good+ Pictorial Dust Jacket. Inscribed by author on half title page: "to Ruth, gracious hostess and fine advocate for survivors - who has long provided a warm "home" for [ ] All my best, Odette 5-13-97". Jewish-born Meyers tells how she survived in German-occupied France by posing as a Christian. Madame Marie, the Catholic concierge in her apartment building and her spiritual godmother, hid Odette and her mother from a police roundup, then placed the child with another Marie in a distant part of France. Although raised as a secular Jew, Meyers recounts her internal struggle with her attraction to Catholicism and her feelings of guilt over possibly betraying the religion of her father (who was in a POW camp) and her mother, who later joined her in hiding, posing as her unwed Catholic mother, Marie. This highly emotional memoir should appeal to general readers as well as those interested in Holocaust studies. Illustrated with b/w photographs. Black cloth with gilt titling on spine. Covers show very mild wear. Dust Jacket shows light shelf wear, very mild bruises at head & tail of spine. Interior is clean, crisp, tight & bright, except as noted unmarked. xi, [1] 464 pp. Approx. 6.25" x 9.5". Carefully shipped in secure parcel. Ask all questions; glad to respond.
