Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Edition De Luxe. Undated, likely circa 1900-1905. Volumes are bound in the original publisher's cloth with title and author on paper labels on the spine. Top edges gilt. The gilt top edges on vols .III and IV have small areas of discoloration. Frontis illustration in each volume. There is light shelf wear on all corners and spine caps. Fore-edges and bottom edges are rough-cut. Front hinge of vol.I is cracked. All bindings firm. Endpapers and preliminary pages are age-toned with sprinkling of foxing. Several pages in each book have been left uncut. Otherwise, the books are clean and unmarked. Too heavy to ship overseas.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Four hardcover volumes. Brown cloth over boards with red cloth spine and gold lettering. Publication date on title page is 1884. Volume 1 is 445 pages. Binding is square and tight. Pages are rough cut. Edges of some pages are bent and folded. Pages are clean and bright, free of foreign markings. Corners and edges of boards are bumped and frayed. Wear mostly to the spine. Spine of each volume has insect damage that looks like fading. Lettering is only partially visible on each volume. Volume 1 also has some similar wear to the back cover edges. Volume 2 is 484 pages. Similar condition to volume 1, with slightly more of that insect damage to the front cover. Edges and corners bumped and frayed, spine worn. Pages within are clean and bright. Volume 3 is 512 pages. Front cover is mostly clean with insect damage mostly on the back cover edges and spine. Pages also clean and bright inside. Volume 4 is 508 pages. Damage mostly to the outside edges and the spine. Each volume contains a frontispiece illustration in very good condition. Since these are a set, they will need to be shipped in a box. Extra shipping will be required for international or priority shipping.

Of 100 copies printed, this is copy number 40. Some mild to moderate soil to boards and spines, with some soiling, scuffing, and chipping to spine labels. Some mild bumping to spine ends. One larger bump to upper corner of front board of Volume IV, and mild bumps to corner of other volumes. Some minor starting to front hinge of Volume I. All 37 etchings present in both states with the exception of the frontispieces of Volumes II & III, which only have the 2 plates in black and not in sanguine. Some very light speckling to endpapers, which bear bookseller's labels from Librairie de Palais-Royal (Groves & Michaux). Interiors are clean and unmarked. Bindings all sound. A very good set of 4 blue cloth hardbacks in original Publisher's design, with Don Quixote figure in gilt. Text is clean and bright throughout with light foxing to first and last few pages. Some spotting to the uncut edges of the text block. With very attractive tissue guarded plates. The inner joints of each volume have all been professionally strengthened and the joint colour matched to the endpapers, making for a secure binding. Without this, these books are always found very weak in their hinges, which are usually split, as the text block is of substantial weight relative to the boards. Text in English.
