First edition, first printing Near fine in like illustrated dust jacket with gentle use. A small nip or tug here or there on the dust jacket, nothing at all offensive. Jacket design by Fred Marcellino is quite bright and dignified. After the Russian invasion in 1968, Kundera lost his post and saw all his books removed form the public libraries in his country. He settled in France in 1975, and in 1979 the Czech government responding to the publication of this book revoked his Czech citizenship. Described as a novel but more than a novel it is really the mind of Kundera in skilled wandering inventions. With the usual light age toning to the edges.
