The music in this volume was written by Katherine Creighton at the request of Anna Botsford Comstock of the Nature-Study Laboratory, Cornell University. Comstock says of Creighton¿s composition of this music, ¿Her poetic feeling and powers of express, her experience as a teacher, her understanding of children, and above all, her love of Nature have all fitted her eminently for this task.¿ Creighton also wrote The Elves of Mt. Fern (Philadelphia, 1922). The bird drawings in this book are by the most eminent American bird artist, Louis Agassiz Fuertes, the insect drawings by Anne C. Stryke, and the Nature photographs by Verne Morton. A very unusual children's book combining music, nature and art.
