First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First Edition. "There has been no better nor more beautiful book on herbs in modern times." -Missouri Botanical Garden Bulletin. This book, beautifully illustrated with original woodblock prints, includes descriptions by Muenscher and Rice of 250 common and exotic plants and hints on how to recognize, grow, harvest, and prepare them. This is one of 90 copies printed on handmade Japanese Kochi paper with seventy illustrations by Abbe printed from the original wood blocks. Abbe was employed as an illustrator for Cornell University and this book was reissued by the university press following this privately printed edition. Abbe also printed and illustrated books on her home press and made sculptures in wood. Her papers are part of the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian. First edition (first printing). A fine copy. There is what may be glue residue on the both front and back covers, which might indicate the former presence of printed labels; however, I have not located a copy with such labels to know for sure.
