A first edition copy of this delightful collection of extracts from Oscar Wilde's poetry, accompanied by illustrations from Mervyn Peake. The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Extracts from eleven of Oscar Wilde's poems, illustrated with sixteen illustrations by the writer and artist Mervyn Peake (1911-1968), with a foreword by Peake's wife, Maeve Gilmore. To the rear are four extracts from poems by Mervyn Peake. In 1945, Peake received a commission to illustrate this collection of extracts from the poems of Oscar Wilde. This book is the first publication of all Peake's illustrations for the poems in book form. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is very smart. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains smart and bright except for sunning to the spine. Fine. book.
