Hope-giving book about happily living together of peasant's son and upstart's daughter. Protagonists aiming to get out of the slum is one of the author's favorite themes. The book is written in a manner characteristic to O. Luts in which reflected his unique ability to look inside the human soul and write about this in free and easy everyday language, full of expression, humour, and unique in its spontaneous way. Oskar Luts (1887-1953) is the favourite author of many generations of readers, a prolific writer whose work comprises short stories, novels, memoirs, articles, feuilletons and plays. The characteristic features of his work include the realistic depiction of everyday life, native idiom, vivid characters, and warm humour. Book's modernist cover design by Peet Aren (1889-1970), famous Estonian painter, graphic artist, painter of stage decorations and illustrator of books. Early art works expressed the national romantic and stylising manner of the "Mir Iskusstva", later he turned to Expressionism and Art Deco.
