Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First American Edition. The Polish explorer, writer, geologist, university professor, and noted anti-communist Ferdynand Antoni Ossendowski's (1876-1945) spent years before the 1917 Bolshevik revolution traveling in south-western Siberia and Outer Manchuria to study and develop coal, salt, gold, and petroleum veins as well as to conduct scientific expeditions to investigate the mineral and healing springs. Siberia did not immediately come under Lenin's rule and Ossendowski was elected into the post Tsar, pre-communist Siberian government. This participation led to a prison sentence for Ossendowski. When this book was published, he had published two other books recounting his adventures both as an explorer of Siberia & the Orient as well as his departure from Siberia to return to Poland. In this third book, Ossendowski relates stories of the bloody results of the revolution that were glossed over by the Russian intelligentsia while they continue to ignore the real results of unenlightened heathen beliefs commingled in ascetic Oriental and Christian orthodox religious framework. This book attempts to lay bare the true nature of Russian (all?) people in terms of the enlightened politerates posed by the Leninists. xii + 203pp. Ossendowski is remembered as a Polish writer, explorer, university professor, and anticommunist political activist. He is known for his books about Lenin and the Russian Civil War in which he participated. During the period between WWI & WWII, his international fame increased with the translation of his international travels and harsh criticism of communist regimes. After the communists took control of Poland, his original notes and most copies of his books were burned. Hardcover has green cloth boards with black lettering & designs on front and spine, but no DJ. Page-edge opposite spine deckled. Spine is sun-burnt with wear at ends. Book has been carefully handled with square corners. Book has been wet at edges, dried with minor damage, no odor. Prior owner ex-libris glued to front pastedown. Original bookseller (Dennen's Book Shop in Detroit MI) sticker & penciled note on ffep. Interior is tight, otherwise clean and text is unmarked. Age appropriate patine. Copyright 1925. Printed in U.S.A. This copy from 2nd printing in April 1925. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Prior Owner Name No Value.
