Book
Condition: New. Condition: New. " Having produced artists such as Mike Kelley, Paul McCarthy, Chris Burden, Catherine Opie and Jim Shaw, Los Angeles since the 90s has rivaled New York as the US contemporary art capital. With the continuing success of LA-based art programs at CalArts, Art Center and UCLA, as well as a growing gallery scene stretching from blue-chip to artist-run spaces, Los Angeles as an art center continues producing increasingly successful generations of artists. The focus of this publication is on extensive visual documentation of contemporary artists working in Los Angeles. Chris Kraus incorporates interviews with artists and gallery owners providing insight into the network of scenes that make up contemporary LA art now. Jan Tumlir (independent art critic) contextualizes contemporary art in Los Angeles, commenting on recent trends and the influence of the LA-based MFA programs. Jane McFadden (art historian currently teaching at Art Center) traces specific trajectories between artists living and working in Los Angeles from the 60s to today, forming a unique history of the area."Following artists: Jorge Pardo, Pae Whie, Adrea Zittel, Laura Owens, Lari Pittman, Jim Shaw, Anthony Ausgang, John Baldessari, Mary Kelly, Raymond Pettibon, Ed Ruscha, Frances Stark, Amy Adler, Sharon Lockhart, Catherine Opie, Liz Craft, Meg Cranston, Terence Koh, Liz Larner, Jason Rhoades, Mark Bradford, James Welling, Andrea Bowers, Sam Durant, Dave Muller, Kaz Oshiro, Chris Burden, Ron Athey, Mike Kelley, Los Super Elegantes, Paul McCarthy, Marnie Weber et al. Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Two issues of this superbly produced magazine of art and architecture published in Spain. Each about 400 pages, text mostly in Spanish but with much in English as well. Many photographs and reproductions in color and black and white, truly a dense and deep publication. In excellent condition for the most part, with some bumping at the corner tips in parts of both at the bottom and slightly larger bump to the upper corner of about 1/2 of issue 4, still not effecting the text or images much. Issue 4 has a little bump about the spine edge which does not effect the binding whatsoever. Minor sun fading to spine of both issues. Some light scuffs and scratches to the covers of both but hardly so and in clean presentable condition. Oddly both covers present the number of the previous issue, so that issue 3 has the number 2 on the front and issue 4 has the number 3. The theme of number 3 is "habitacion / room" and the theme of number 4 is "casa / house." Issue 3 contributors are Colexio Oficial de Arquitectos de Galicia Craig Kalpakjian, Erwan Bouroullec, Pablo Gallego Picard, Ronan Bouroullec, Erwan Bouroullec, Rosemary Laing, Robin Evans, Mary Lucier, Michael Rakowitz, Casey Mack, María Asunción Salgado de la Rosa, Larry Sultan, Mathias Goeritz, Juan Creus Andrade, Chus Pato, Anxos Romeo, Estevo Creus, Yolanda Castaño, Marco Aristògatoff Issue 4 contributors are Thomas Roma, Jonas Dahlberg, José Manuel Gallego Jorreto, Jorge Pardo, Claus Carstensen, Jes Vagnby, Erik Nielsen, Maria Papadimitriou, Yorghos Tzirtilakis, Isidro Blasco, Fernando Quesada López, Holger Klein, Pamela Theodora, Bobby Baker, Herme Ciscar, Mónica García, Tanja Jordan, María Fullaondo Buigas de Dalmau, Txuma Sánchez, Santiago Alba Rico
