Hard Cover. Condition: USED_VERYGOOD. No Jacket. Reissue. Publisher's insert laid in. A couple tiny spots on top edge, otherwise an excellent copy. 1958 Hard Cover. 563 pp. Victorian replica binding. Brown leatherette boards, gilt titles and decorations, ribbon marker bound in, beige speckled endpapers. Translated from the Russian by Max Hayward, Manya Harari, and Bernard Guilbert Guerney. "The Poems of Yurii Zhivago" translated by Bernard Guilbert Guerney. First published in Italy in 1957 amid international controversy, Doctor Zhivago is the story of the life and loves of a poet/physician during the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. Taking his family from Moscow to what he hopes will be shelter in the Ural Mountains, Zhivago finds himself instead embroiled in the battle between the Whites and the Reds. Set against this backdrop of cruelty and strife is Zhivago's love for the tender and beautiful Lara, the very embodiment of the pain and chaos of those cataclysmic times. Pevear and Volokhonsky masterfully restore the spirit of Pasternak's original?his style, rhythms, voicings, and tone?in this beautiful translation of a classic of world literature.

Hardcover. Condition: USED_NEARFINE. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Ampelio Tettamanti (illustrator). 2nd printing. [a very presentable copy, with no significant wear to book but some uneven age-toning to edges of text block (apparently from variant paper stocks); the jacket shows minor wear to extremities, with minor chipping at top of spine and at upper rear hinge, and short splits (about 1"-1.5") at lower hinges]. The Pasternak classic of a doctor-poet's travails during and after the Russian Revolution, memorably filmed by David Lean in 1965. After Soviet censors refused to permit the novel's publication in the U.S.S.R., a smuggled copy of the manuscript served as the basis for the first publication, an Italian translation issued in Milan in November 1957; the American edition was published in July 1958 (this second printing is from August). ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.****.
