Daher widmet sich das Heft der Zigarette - danach. Betrachtet wird das Rauchen in der visuellen Kultur. Der Rückblick auf die vielfältigen Konnotationen, die sich um das Rauchen als exotischen Genuss rankten, geht den kulturellen Verortungen des Tabaks nach: Kunstproduktion und Populärkultur imaginieren ein »wildes« Amerika und einen schwül-erotischen »Orient«; zugleich kann das Rauchen ein Zeichen von Emanzipation und Widerstand sein. Das Ephemere des Rauchens ist darüber hinaus eng mit Medien wie Fotografie und Film verbunden, die auf diese Weise Atmosphären schaffen und Diven erstehen lassen.
