Blue cloth lettered in darker blue.Book is in very good plus condition with very minor signs of wear and/or age. Spine ends a and rear cover slightly worn. Matched up with a dustwrapper (from a different source) which I asssume to be from the first edition of 1939 as the wrapper spine is about 30mm wide and has illustration of wooden ?stocks. Entire but vertical crease down spine and internally a bit dusty.

Hardback in dustwrapper. 19 × 13cm, 355pp. Signed by Ernest W Pettifer to the ffep, with a second gift inscription below. The author was the Clerk to the West Riding Justices at Doncaster, and a writer about the legal system and crime. In this book, he covers the work of the courts though cases, with chapters on the mind of the criminal, strange cases etc, and also the children's court, husbands and wives, gangs and gangsters, and so on, with occasional illustration. Condition: The book is in strong readable condition, with some spotted foxing to the page edges. The dustwrapper is a little tatty to the edges but in good order. Signed by Author(s).
