First Edition
Paperback. Translation by Clara Phan Knudson. Photographs by James A. Smestad. Small 4to. Stiff glazed pictorial wrappers. 234pp. Numerous illustrations (some color). Very good. First edition, tight and nice, of this memoir by a Vietnamese engineer and architect who fled to America, with interesting side-by-side Vietnamese/English text. Well-known UPI photographer Smestad, whose photographs grace this book, was also the author's son-in-law. Large, choice signature and inscription in black fineline from the photographer to another well-known photographer, Archie Lieberman (1926-2008) of "Farm Boy" fame, on the front flyleaf: For Archie / from / Jim & [ ? ] / Smestad / 5-23-96." Below this, Lieberman pens Smestad's name and address.
