Hardcover. Condition: Collectible-Very Good-. Dust Jacket Condition: Good-. First Edition. xii, 462 pages. 8vo. Illustrated by two black and white photographic portraits of Kidd and numerous portraits of others. First edition. Nevins I, p. 146. Dornbusch II, 27. The book is SIGNED, without inscription, on the title page by the author. A remarkably detailed biography and genealogy of a little-known Confederate soldier from Selma, Alabama. Reuben Vaughan Kidd (1839-1863) joined Company A of the 4th Alabama Infantry as a 2nd Sergeant on April 26, 1861. He saw military action at South Mountain and Sharpsburg, was later elected lieutenant and captain by soldiers in his company, led his company in battle at Gettysburg, and was killed in action at Chickamauga on September 19, 1863. Pierrepont relied heavily upon letters written by other members of Company A and the detailed letters written by Kidd himself. The book is in about very good condition: clean and tight, with slight color rubbing along edges of the red cloth covered boards; foxing on the fore-edge of the textblock, but not on pages. The dust jacket is in fair-to-good condition, with some soiling on the rear panel, fading of background color on spine, shallow chipping along edges, and taped repairs on verso of splits along fold lines. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
