Ces technologies de l'image et du son ont été des outils de transformation, voire des modes spécifiques d'expression, qui ont fait subir à l'opéra traditionnel ce que Hannah Arendt appelle « la violence de l'interprétation ». Le cinéma musical nord-américain témoigne de cette violence, la sécrète, la fabrique et l'exprime. Par commodité, appelons ces films-opéras des opérascopes. Réal La Rochelle est diplômé de l'Université Stendhal de Grenoble, professeur et critique de cinéma, président-fondateur de la Phonothèque québécoise.
