Original green cloth, gilt stamped spine; front and rear covers are blind ruled with a central medallion of four interlocking circles. Call number on spine. Pencil marginalia on a few pages. Library label & ex-libris on front pastedown. Pinhole stamp on title page and one other leaf. 8vo. pp. 11, 187. Placed in a removable, clear archival wrapper with a small, loose slip of acid-free, color-matched paper to mask the call numbers. Scarce. Richard Pococke (1704-1765) was an English-born traveler and travel writer. He made several tours of Ireland, including one in 1752 in which he visited half of Ireland's counties. His manuscript record of this tour was kept at Trinity College and remained unpublished until 1891. From the collection of John Wilson (c. 1826-1900), an Irish-born pioneer merchant and book collector of Portland, Oregon. His eight-thousand volume collection, considered one of the finest on the west coast, was bequeathed to the Portland public library in 1900.
