Mass Market paperback. Condition: USED_VERYGOOD. Illustrated by Powers, Richard (Cover) (illustrator). Fifth Printing. Corners bumped, a little edge wear, a little cover creasing and soiling. Light tanning but text is clean and unmarked. An attractive copy. ; Ex-library with usual markings. Boards somewhat worn, corners chipped. Loose, with covers pulling away from the book. Pages in very good condition. Introduction by Joe Haldeman for this Gregg Press edition. ; 6¾" - 7¾" Tall; 128 pages; This is one of Heinlein's classic novels from the 1950s. An out-of-work (and, truthfully, not so great) actor, Lorenzo Smythe, is hired to act as a double for one of the Solar System's leading politicians, Joseph Bonforte, who has been kidnapped and poisoned by his political opponents to sabotage relations with Mars. Heinlein details, in his usual entertaining style, the difficulties inherent in pulling off such a substitution (imagine hiring a double for FDR at Potsdam). When the worst happens and Bonforte dies, Smythe decides to continue in his stead. Heinlein chronicles his ongoing ethical and political growth as he struggles with not only the substitution, but the rigors of an interplanetary election campaign.
