Letterato instancabile e straordinaria figura intellettuale e umana della cultura del Novecento, Roberto «Bobi» Bazlen ha permesso e diffuso la conoscenza in Italia di autori fondamentali come Musil, Groddeck, Heinrich Mann, Zweig, senza dimenticare le prime traduzioni italiane di «Psicologia e educazione» di Jung e di «L'interpretazione dei sogni» di Freud, entrambe pubblicate da Astrolabio rispettivamente nel 1947 e nel 1948. A lungo consulente della Casa editrice Einaudi, nel 1962 fondò, con Luciano Foà, la Casa editrice Adelphi, prima di morire improvvisamente nel 1965. Questa raccolta di lettere e carte editoriali a cura dello stesso Luciano Foà e di Roberto Calasso, pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1968, testimonia il febbrile, appassionato, sempre attento lavoro di consulente e di editore impegnato a divulgare per amore della conoscenza propria e altrui. Significative in questo senso le parole contenute nella lettera a Foà del 14 luglio 1960 affinché Einaudi pubblicasse l'inedito, in Italia, «Life Against Death» di Norman O. Brown: «Di libri importanti e stimolanti, ne nascono pochi. E perché, stimolati noi, evitare che vengano stimolati gli altri? Gli altri [e particolarmente in Italy] ne hanno più bisogno di noi». in 8°, brossura, pp. [4] 146 [2]. Prima edizione. Nel 1973, Roberto Calasso curò l'edizione di quest'opera raccogliendo il manoscritto rimasto, alcuni fogli dattiloscritti e manoscritti e il «quaderno B, manoscritto» che riprende le vicende del protagonista sino alla fine. Nell'Appendice si riportano anche altri frammenti del «quaderno B» e diversi appunti tratti dal «quaderno D» con episodi narrati nella prima parte del libro e annotazioni dell'Autore. L'opera è arricchita da quindici tavole (disegni e acquerelli) di Bazlen fuori dal testo. in 8°, brossura con sovracoperta illustrata (Otto Dix, «Il marinaio Fritz Müller di Pieschen»), pp. 239 [1], contiene 15 tavole riproducenti disegni a china e acquerelli dell'Autore fuori dal testo.
