Hardcover / Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Hardback, Book Club Edn. Ronald Biggs was a legend in his own lifetime. A member of the gang who carried out the Great Train Robbery, on Thursday August 8, 1963 in Buckinghamshire. He came to personal notoriety, excitement and drama of what was the biggest and most daring crime in British history. No one ran more rings round Scotland Yard, nor eluded more bounty hunters. Having made a successful getaway from the scene of the crime, Biggs - along with most of the other gang members - was subsequently captured; he received a 30yr jail sentence. But within 15-months he had made a spectacular escape from Wandsworth Prison. In this book, Biggs speaks openly about the robbery and his years on the run, and for the first time divulges just how he had eluded justice for so long. He talks about his life in Brazil, where he remained a hero of popular mythology, courted by the music and film industries, the media and the whole nation. His account is both revealing and highly entertaining. Illus. + Appendices. 279pp. 8vo. h/back. Includes a loosely inserted 12" x 8" colour photograph of Ronnie Biggs, wearing a Brazilian football shirt, and holding a copy of 'Odd Man Out'. This photograph is from 'The Great Train Robbery & Ronnie Biggs' auction held on June 16, 2015 by J P Humbert Auctioneers Ltd' and is SIGNED BY RONNIE BIGGS. With small 'scratch' marks to fore-edge, but covers F. in vg+ dw. signed by author.

Hardcover. Condition: USED_ASNEW. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. Ronnie Biggs (1929-2013) was a most celebrated fugitive who participated in the 1963 Great Train Robbery in Britain taking in nearly £2.5 million pounds sterling. Most of the gangs were rounded up by the police, but Biggs escaped from prison by an ingeniously planned method. Soon the detectives and the Scotlandyard were on his trail around the world, but Biggs was always a step ahead of them. From Australia he arrived in Brazil and settled down in Rio de Jenoro with a pretty woman. By the time the police found his whereabouts, they couldn't extradite him on technical grounds. Their attempts to kidnap him twice was also failed. Shortly after the publication of this book, I tracked him down in Rio and asked for his inscribed autographs which he obliged on plain white stickers attached to the title page (see image), this one is inscribed as "Escape to Rio, Ronnie Biggs" in his handwriting using a red pen. Illustrated with photographs and decorated end pages featuring his various escape routes around the world from British police detectives, Scotlandyard and Interpol. 279 pages, First edition, first print, as new, a beautiful volume, unread and comes with a dustjacket as new, rare signed inscribed copy by legendary great train robber Ronnie Biggs. Inscribed by Author(s).
