Catalog written and edited by Jeremy Norman and Davida Rubin. Robert M. Herbst sent to Norman a listing of his library of more than 500 medical and travel books, most of them assembled by "that celebrated 18th century polyhistor, Johann Friedrich Blumenbach", who compiled one of the first bibliographies of medical historical literature. Some of the books, which are now listed in this catalog, were Blumenbach's own working copies used in his research and in compiling his bibliography.
