Narrative of soldier, geologist and explorer Major John Wesley Powell's (1834-1902) river trip down the Green and Colorado rivers. Powell made the trip in 1869, retraced the route in 1871-1872), and wrote a stirring account published 1875 by the Smithsonian Institute. Complementing the report were woodcuts, for the major part by Thomas Moran, based on photos taken on the 2nd Expedition; this mongraph includes original engravings and some photographs. Fine copy.
