This is a facsimile reprint of one of the most sought-for items of New Mexicans, a famous but almost never seen booklet about the sheriff who pursued and killed Billy the Kid. It was written just after Garrett's own slaying in 1908, written by a newspaperman who knew Garrett and New Mexico well. This exact reproduction was made by a photographic process from one of the two known copies of the first (and until now only) edition. It is not only good history; it is thrilling reading matter. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the tumultuous history of the American Southwest, specifically focusing on the infamous Lincoln County War and the legendary figure at its center: Pat Garrett, the man who brought down Billy the Kid. Through meticulous research and vivid storytelling, the author paints a picture of a lawless land where cattle rustlers and gunfighters reigned supreme, and where justice was often served at the barrel of a gun. The narrative goes beyond the well-worn legend of Billy the Kid to explore the complexities of Garrett's life and career. It examines his motivations, his unwavering pursuit of justice, and the moral dilemmas he faced in a territory where the line between good and evil was often blurred. More than just a thrilling account of gunfights and outlaws, this book grapples with profound questions about the nature of violence, the complexities of frontier justice, and the enduring legacy of the Wild West. Ultimately, it leaves readers with a deeper understanding of the forces that shaped this pivotal period in American history and the men who became both its heroes and its villains.
