Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. A.M. Hicks. Jacket art by Nick Yates. (illustrator). 149 pp, 8vo (8 5/8" H). The author's first novel. B&w illustrations. "The elements of Aboriginal lore which make up this stirring tale of magic and high adventure are based largely on the Kabi and Wakka nations, who once lived near the Queensland coast north of Brisbane. 'Boori' is a fantasy, but it shows the importance placed upon moral obligations by Aborigines in their native culture, and it is set in a precisely described landscape. The reader should be able to trace the journey of the young man with the aid of an atlas and imagination - the People have gone but the mountains and rivers still remain, and the Melong still dances his great circling corroboree off the coast, bringing the cyclones in to lay waste the land. In its imaginative empathy with traditional Aboriginal life and way of thought, 'Boori' is a notable achievement." Light edge wear, light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine. Dust jacket has very light wrinkling at top/bottom of spine and flap-folds, two very small closed edge tears, minor rubbing.
