Experience the life and legacy of one of England's most prolific writers with 'Fanny Burney and Her Friends'. This book introduces readers to the works of Frances Burney, a satirical novelist, diarist, and playwright whose writing career spanned decades. Burney held the prestigious post of "Keeper of the Robes" to George III's queen and later married a French exile. Her first novel, 'Evelina', was a critical success and remains highly regarded to this day. Alongside her literary accomplishments, Burney wrote memoirs, letters, and journals that offer a unique glimpse into her world and the people she knew?which are presented in this very book.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good +. No Jacket. viii, 331 (13) pp, b&w frontis. Stated New Edition, 1895. "Frances Burney (1752-840), also known as Fanny Burney and after her marriage as Madame d'Arblay, was an English novelist, diarist and playwright. She was self-educated and began writing what she called her 'scribblings' at the age of ten. In 1793, aged 42, she married a French exile, General Alexandre D'Arblay. After a lengthy writing career, and travels that took her to France for more than ten years, she settled in Bath, England. Although her novels were hugely popular during her lifetime, Biographers and critics of her time regarded her extensive diaries, published posthumously in 1841, as a more interesting and accurate portrait of 18th-century life, and are still valued today for their candid depictions of English society in her times. Partially Unopened. Owner's Ex Libris Bookplate on front pastedown and two tipped-in reviews. Only the slightest edge wear with partially age-toned verso of recto frontis, and age-toned text block edges, Pristine Interior. Clean, tight and strong binding with no underlining, highlighting or marginalia. Green cloth cloth with gilt lettering to front board and spine. Size: 8vo. Book.
Condition: Good. Good condition. 3rd edition. (autobiography, writers, historian, literature) A copy that has been read but remains intact. May contain markings such as bookplates, stamps, limited notes and highlighting, or a few light stains.
