Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 1942 assumed first edition, translated from the German. The 38 pages are tight, bright, and clean, free of writings. Internally book is fine minus. The red cloth cover has what appears to be some red circles or red drawings. Book is good minus externally.

Book Club edition. 8vo: 338pp; bright red cloth over board, title in gilt to spine; ownership in ink to ffep; upper edge black stained; publisher's colophon to title page; fading of gilt on spine, slight glue burn to eps; brown unclipped dust jacket without price, title and author in black border of barbed wire, sunning and chipping to spine, rubbing to edges; near fine in very good dj. Title in the German: Das Siebt. Kreuz: Roman. A war time (WWII) novel by German author, Seghers, warns of the danger of the Nazis and totalitarianism. Having escaped from a concentration camp, the prisoners flee across Germany trying to escape the Nazis searching for them. Back at the camp, seven trees are cut in anticipation of the return of the prisoners so they may be tortured.
