"(O)ne school stands above all others as the single most important contributor to developing hockey players for the NHL, and that is St. Michael's College (Toronto). Since initiating its hockey program, 184 alumni have gone on to play in the National Hockey League. St. Michael's has won a plethora of team awards. The Senior squad was OHA Senior Champion of 1909 and won the Allan Cup as national champions in 1910. The St. Michael's Majors won the Memorial Cup as the top Junior team in Canada in 1934, 1945, 1947 and 1961, were five-time Eastern Canadian champions and won the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHA junior champs on six occasions. The Majors also won the Metro Junior Hockey League championship in 1962 and the Toronto St. Michael's Majors, having returned to Junior action after an extended hiatus, took the Emms Trophy as Central Division champions in 2002 and 2004. Meantime, the St. Michael's Buzzers have won the Sutherland cup six times as the best Junior 'B' team in Ontario and since moving to Provincial Junior 'A', have won the Frank L. Buckland Trophy as OPJHL champions in 2005 and 2006. Many outstanding hockey personalities have passed through the doors of St. Michael's College, but fourteen have earned induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame: Bobby Bauer, Gerry Cheevers, Dick Duff, Tim Horton, Red Kelly, Dave Keon, Ted Lindsay, Frank Mahovlich, Reg Noble, Joe Primeau and Frank Rankin in the Player category, and Father David Bauer, Murray Costello and Jim Gregory in the Builder category. And while the school has every reason to be proud of its extraordinary hockey legacy, the real reason to boast is that more than 6,000 students who made hockey part of their school experience left having learned the importance of leadership, discipline and staying true to strong values.".
