Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: VERY GOOD. First Edition. Hardbound, NEAR FINE, with a VERY GOOD dust jacket. A play verging on science fiction, with one of its three characters being half-human and half a machine, in order to help another character, a Germanic Emperor, wage a war. The third character is the Scientist who created this cyborg/robotic figure, but TR is probably correct in seeing this play, in his prefatory "Appreciation" note, as one which shows "in dramatic manner how the Prussianized militaristic autocracy of the Hohenzollerns has turned Germany into an inhuman machine for the destruction of what is highest and best in mankind." One of several plays of this era which condemned the Prussians and the Kaiser for the war in Europe, then, while it also raised questions about many other concerns, including the impact of the machine age, of science, and the gospel of industrial "efficiency" on human beings.
