Hardcover / Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition. Hardback. The second book in the series under the Scheme, "Source Material for the History of Goa's Freedom Movement." Shri Laxmikant V.P. Bhembre had been in the forefront of Goa's freedom struggle since the early 1940s. He was one of the prominent members of the socio-political organisation, very active in Madgaon called 'Sanghatana Committee', later transformed as 'Gomantak Congress', which was clandestinely creating political awareness among Goans prior to the formation of the unified National Congress (Goa). The late Shri Bhembre, in the absence of the Socialist leader Shri Asoka Mehta who was to chair, had presided over the historic conclave of 17th-18th August, 1946 in London, where the National Congress (Goa), the main political party which fought for Goa's freedom was founded. Under the initial programme of the National Congress (Goa), he was the first to offer Satyagraha at Madgaon on September 18th, 1946. Subsequently, he was tried by the Territorial Military Court and sentenced to 4 years' imprisonment in exile in Portugal where he was deported fron Goa. Though released from Peniche Fort in Portugal on completion of the jail term, he was not allowed to go back to Goa until its Liberation. He ultimately returned to free Goa on May 8th, 1962, along with other Goan leaders. This book is the edited translation of the file of his trial in the Territorial Military Court in Goa, as well as in the Supreme Court of Judicature in Lisbon. Illus., Appendices + Index. 149pp. 4to h/back. From the library of true crime writer, Wilfred Gregg, with his personal b/plate. Vg+ in Vg+ dw. Scarce.
