Hardcover. Condition: New. The book entitled Morphology, Biodiversity, and Ecological Status of Hill Streams in Himachal Pradesh, Northwestern Himalayan Ecosystem, India is an outcome of ample research work done by the authors over a span of almost ten years. The book offers comprehensive compendium on various biological aspects of hill streams in Himachal Pradesh, nestled within the Northwestern Himalayas, India. This book offers detailed analysis of morphology, biodiversity, and ecological dynamics of hill streams besides, shedding light on their significance. Furthermore, the book provides detailed analysis of structure, formation, hydrological processes, and ecological features of these water bodies. The authors have particularly given insight into the diverse array of habitats found within these streams, ranging from cascading waterfalls to serene pools, and scrutinizes how these physical characteristics influence the ecological dynamics within the stream. Based on said characteristics features streams are classified into different categories. Furthermore, the book provides scientific information related to the rich biodiversity of the hill streams, documenting the numerous species of aquatic flora and fauna ranging from colorful fish species to microscopic organisms such as plankton, the diversity of life within these water courses is fascinating and indispensable for the ecological integrity of the region. The book initially provides a pertinent overview of the geographical and geological features of Himachal Pradesh, setting the stage for understanding the unique characteristics of the hill streams of the state. It then delves into the morphology of these water bodies, examining their physical attributes such as flow patterns, substrate composition, and channel dynamics and then it focuses on the ecology. Through detailed analysis and scientific methodologies, the authors provide a deep understanding of various factors which influence the overall habitat structure and ecological functions of the streams. Each chapter offers detailed understandings of the taxonomy, behavior, and ecological status of flora and fauna, highlighting the interconnectedness of species within the ecosystem. Through extensive field surveys, water quality assessments, and ecological modeling, the authors have evaluated the health and resilience of these ecosystems. Additionally, the book addresses the various challenges faced due to numerous anthropogenic activities such as deforestation, development of hydropower projects, agricultural runoff etc. posing serious threats to the stream health and biodiversity and strategies for mitigating these threats. Invaluable approaches for sustainable management of hill streams including role of stakeholders to safeguard these vital waterbodies have also been discussed.

The basic concept behind sustainable development endorses taking up strong measures to spur economic and social development, particularly for people in developing countries, while ensuring that environmental integrity and management is sustained for future generations. Water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical for socio-economic development, healthy ecosystems and for human survival itself. It is central to the production and preservation of a host of benefits and services for people. Water is also at the heart of adaptation to climate change, serving as the crucial link between the climate system, human society and the environment. Today, more than 1.7 billion people live in river basins where depletion through use exceeds natural recharge, a trend that will see two thirds of the world s population living in water-stressed countries by 2025. Water can pose a serious challenge to sustainable development but managed efficiently and equitably, water can play a key enabling role in strengthening the resilience of social, economic and environmental systems in the light of rapid and unpredictable changes. The conference received a good number of research papers and review articles. The research papers were reviewed critically and we were of the opinion that this may be come out in a form of edited book. This will ens.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The work highlights the effect of herbicide both singly and in combination with soil amendments of varying resource quality on soil fertility indices, inorganic N dynamics and total biological productivity in a tropical dryland agroecosystem. The crop sequence taken in this study was rice-barley-summer fallow during two consecutive annual cycles. The soil fertility indices were determined in terms of soil microbial biomass C and N. Inorganic N dynamics was assessed via estimating the soil available nutrients as ammonium N and nitrate N. The sum of both forms of N represent the inorganic N available in soil at a time. Rate of N mineralization was estimated by buried bag technique following the method of Eno. N uptake by plants was estimated by Kjeldahl method. Total biological productivity was calculated by summation of crop and weed productivity during the crop cycles and annually. All estimations were done on dry weight basis and statistically analyzed via SPSS tool. The present investigation emphasized that the negative effect of herbicides were masked when applied in combination with soil amendments of high resource quality. 140 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. 120 pp. Portugiesisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. 124 pp. Deutsch.
