Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Octavo, xvi, 551, (1), Sir John Lubbock s bookplate to front paste down. frontis plus woodcuts to text. Publisher s decorated cloth with embossed spine, original end papers present, partly unopened, publisher s catalogue to rear. Sir John Lubbock s signature to half title dated August 1868. Very slight foxing but overall, in very good firm condition. A very nice association copy. Sir John Lubbock was one of the leading intellectuals of the 19th century but entered into a dispute with Lyell, during the course of which he accused Lyell of plagiarism. This dispute dragged on among scientific circles for much of this period at a critical time. Would make a nice addition to any library or collection on evolutionary studies. Clearly, Lubbock had forgiven Lyell to the extent of keeping one of his books in his library.
